You can build own wheelchair

Wheelchair ramps can be a basic straight line from pavement to porch or more complex if they wrap or zigzag. How complicated you get will depend greatly on your skill level. But to design and build a wheelchairs ramp yourself essentially depends on two factors when you're in planning stage: your loved one's needs and the building the ramp leads up to.

 Steps for making wheelchair

1. First, one should have to measure up from the ground to find out how many inches the ramp will rise. As for every inch of rise, it will need one foot of run. To accommodate turning at the top of the ramp, up to 5 foot square landing must be laid out with batter boards and mason's lines. Each line must be leveled in order to apply the 3-4-5 triangle principle to square the corner. The line then slides along the batter board until the distance between two points (3 feet and 4 feet from the corner) is 5 feet.

2. Multiply the height of the steps, in inches, by twelve to find the length of the ramp you will need. A gradient of 1:12 is good for a ramp that is not too steep to climb in a wheelchairs  but is also not too long to be positionable in most corridors or outside.

3.Compare this calculated length with the free space available as determined by the second measurement in Step 1. If the calculated length is less than the free space, the ramp will work. If the length is greater than the free space, consider a slightly higher gradient or even a two-stage ramp that doubles back upon itself, to reduce the overall length.

Maintenance of wheelchair

Add caption

A wheelchair should be maintained regularly so that it will last a long time and work properly. When chairs break down often, the user's health and safety can be threatened, and the user is less apt to get involved socially. While there are times that a trained professional must do certain maintenance or repair tasks, there are many things that a wheelchair user or their caregiver can do to maximize the chair's lifetime and usefulness. The exact nature of these tasks is partly determined by whether the wheelchairs is manual or electric.

Handicapped wheelchairs lift are a blessing to people with limited mobility because of the best services that they can propose to the mobility challenged people. No wonder that these mechanisms are of great importance for such men or women because people can be transferred easily when they are traveling or moving around in a particular place where they need to raise the stairways. Whatever place they could go such as buildings, hotels, homes, hospitals, shops, or many other public places, they will have a better transportation with suchhandicapped wheelchair lifts.

Wheelchair Maintenance Checklist
It is important that wheelchairs should be checked regularly and serviced by an approved repairer. Each School/Section should also carry out regular maintenance checks to keep their wheelchair in safe working order.

Weekly Checks:
Tyres
The pressure in the tyres should be checked weekly. Use a tyre pressure gauge and pump up to the correct pressure marked on the tyre side.
Check for punctures or weak/cracked tread.
The following should be checked every month:
Wheels
Check they are free spinning. If there is any wobbling the wheel requires repair.
Spokes
Check for loose or broken spokes.
Hand rims
Check for rough or sharp edges.
Brakes
Ensure brakes are tight and functioning correctly.
Check that the brakes and tyres are making contact. An incorrectly inflated tyre will diminish the effectiveness of the braking mechanism. If necessary, pump tyres to correct pressure.
Ensure braking mechanism moves freely. If lubrication is required use silicon spray not oil or grease.
Footrests
Check that all pivot parts move freely. If lubrication is required use silicon spray not oil or grease.
Armrests/legrests
Check for sharp edges.
Push handle grips
Check that they are secure.
Frame
Check for small dents or cracks - these can affect the frame strength.
Dirt should be removed with a damp cloth.
Ball bearings
Unusual noise or excessive wheel wobble usually indicates that the bearings are weak and need replacing.

Dance On Wheelchair

Everyone can shake their body. Even in a wheelchair. Does this come as a surprise? Then, listen up because everyone should dance if they want to.
Wheelchair dance includes partners made up of one wheelchair user and one standing member; which is called Combi-style dance. If you're in a wheelchair, consider switching to your power chair for the evening! Of course, it's also possible for two wheelchair users to dance together, officially called Duo-dance. Style includes everything - from the Waltz to the Rumba to the Jive. You can even take part in group formation dancing, where 4 to 8 couples dance in choreographed arrangements. Whether you're in a wheelchair or not, everyone can have a blast dancing.

Wheelchairs dancing or adaptive dancing as it is also called is growing rapidly in popularity and has been in existence for more than twenty years. There are many different forms. Sometimes it's a matter of two people doing their own spontaneous "thing". If the man is a wheelchair user his partner may sit on his lap and they dance seated. Then there is also line dancing when everyone executes pre-arranged moves or there is partner dancing with one or both participants in wheelchairs

Wheelchairs dancing also referred to as adaptive dancing and can be coupled with an able body dancer. Think of the possibilities from networking with your local dance school students and teachers, high school volunteer groups and senior volunteer groups who love to dance. The Yellow Pages lists all kinds of dance companies who you could collaborate with to provide instruction and also bring their students to entertain and instruct your residents. The American Dance Therapy Association has Dance Movement Therapist in many states.
